A lull in business

I have a doula friend who always says that this business is either feast or famine. That is certainly how it has felt for me these past few months! After my last client in January, I had to turn down some clients due to family trips. A 5 day trip can mean clearing a whole month of my schedule so that I don’t let a client down if their baby come “early” or “late.” We all know that due dates are simply rough guides, and “due month” feels a bit more appropriate! Any who, after this many months without attending a birth, it becomes very easy to start to feel like an imposter all over again! Am I really still a doula!!?? That means it’s time to give myself a push toward feeling like a birth worker again, hence this blog post.

The hardest part of doula work is being on call. If we have trips planned, birthday parties scheduled, the kids are out of school, etc., the on call life can feel very tough. It is the one thing I have not missed over these months. It is why I am going to expand my offering in childbirth education. I want to stay connected to the birth world and continue to support families even when being on call isn’t feasible. When possible, I will offer group classes, either in person or online, and I will have even more availability for private classes. If you are interested in learning more, please check out the “Childbirth Education” section of my website, and check social media for upcoming group class dates.
